CODE OF CONDUCT

RIDE SAFELY

Always wear a helmet and appropriate safety gear. Know your ability and ride within your limits. The Barcy Red trails must be ridden in one direction only. Inspect all trails, obstacles and technical trail features before proceeding. Make sure your bike is in good working condition and is suitable for the trails you are planning to ride. Make sure each rider in your group has a map and knows where the group is headed.

Plan rest stops and meeting places in case you get separated. Be aware of any road crossings and give way to vehicles. Some trails will have specific road crossings points. Signage will outline the required behaviour when crossing roads.

RESPECT OTHERS

Look out for slower riders. Let your fellow trail users know you are coming. Anticipate other trail users as you ride around corners. Be aware other users also use the Barcaldine common area. Stay on the Barcy red trails and do not trespass on private property.

RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT

Stay on the existing Barcy Red trails, do not take short cuts and do not create new trails. Keep your bike clean to reduce the spread of weeds. Respect trail closures. Do not ride on closed trails. Take your rubbish with you.

PLAN AHEAD

Know your equipment, your ability, and the area in which you are riding and prepare accordingly. The trails of Barcy Red travel through remote terrain. Be prepared. Carry tools, spares, water, food, a mobile phone, and map. Be aware of livestock and native animals, including snakes. If you encounter any livestock or native animals give them a wide berth and do not handle or hurt them in any way. Mobile phone reception is not always available along the trail network. You should not rely on being able to obtain mobile phone reception at all times in all locations. Let someone know where you intend to ride and when you plan to get back.
